(Even if you don't want to)

  1. Manage your energy, not only your time.

It’s hard to remain focused the entire time you’re working. Of course, that would be ideal but you would come to realise that there are specific times where you’re more energised than the others. Plan your golden hours to be more creative and intellectually based work, and the other times to be menial tasks.

  1. Control Your Environment

Or at least elements in your environment that you can control. You can’t really change where you work and what happens. But you can control what you can do with the problem.

Turn off your phone. Use browser blockers to avoid going to social media. Use headphones.

  1. Don’t Try Multitasking

When you’re so unproductive, you tend to go from one task to another to avoid feeling bored. You’re actually just interrupting yourself from completing a task fully, which is going to tank your productivity even further. Focus one task at a time.

  1. Prioritise Healthy Habits

Your unhealthy habits will spill over your work eventually.

Not enough sleep? You’re nodding off while writing up a report. You’re not eating breakfast? Food is all you can think about during your meetings. Coffee before drinking plain water? Your stomach will suffer for it. All these issues will become distractions from you doing your work.

  1. Take a Break

The fresh air is a palette cleanser from the stressful tasks you have to endure. You need that reprieve, don’t deny yourself 5-10 minutes of rest.

  1. Break it Down

Break these tasks into sub-tasks, and that way it doesn’t feel as overwhelming. You can feel relieved that you actually did multiple sub-tasks and that will motivate you into working more.
